Amsterdam or Munich CD shopping recommendations?

Post by surrealised on Thu 23 Feb 2012 - 12:41

Hey there,

I'm off to Amsterdam, Paris, Verona and Munich for a quick visit in April and I'd like to visit a secondhand/used CD shop or two if I can.

Can anyone give me some recommendations? Names and addresses?

Thanks.

I knew a few places in Amsterdam but not sure if they are still around. Let me do a google search about that.

This page lists almost all of them (concerto was a really good one, but not sure now). Second Life music looks good to me! All in the centrum of Amsterdam with map.

Marvellous. And thank you. I'm only in each place for a few days and having a recommendation (or two) from someone will save me a heap of time. Now, I just need to plan our wandering about the city, so that we 'accidentally' walk past one of these shops. My partner will have to let me go in for a quick look then, surely! Smile Maybe I'll just drop him off at a coffee shop for a while :-)

I've lived in Bangkok for the last eight years and really miss spending an afternoon scrounging through the racks in a secondhand CD/record shop like I used to back in Australia. Ah, the good old days. I don't suppose that there are any CD shops in Cambodia either eh, Dirk?

Ronald, I think the nearest that I'll get to you is when we visit some relatives at Den Haag.
I'll take your list with me though, as, you never know where we might end up. Thanks.

In Cambodia all you can find are CD shops with pirated shit from China or Malaysia, no real original discs at all. The shite! Twisted Evil

Ronald: Wrekastowa (or whatever the name was) was THE import 12'' shop back in the day, I forgot where it was but we combined it when we went for a concert in Ahoy.

It's closed now I just found out. Sad

Yes, dump him in a coffee shop and say the coffee is really good and strong there! Razz Razz Razz

Or find something for him and you go on a quick CD trip with a tram (have a map with you) most recordstores will be on a street where a tram will stop nearby I guess.

Planning to go back in June, so we miss eachother by just 2 months.

Yeah, there was one chain here in Bangkok with a few stores which kept me happy for a while (and where I picked up some very nice rarities), but it closed down a few years back. Now, only the pirated stuff at stalls on the streets. Urgh!

I'll be in Amsterdam for only a few days in April this year. We picked up some quite cheap flights on KLM which helped to lock in our travel plans into Europe. Our stay won't be long enough but I'm looking at it as a kind of a preview visit for a longer stay in a few years time.

I am planning a return visit to Cambodia at some stage in the next year or two though. We paid to have a few local water pumps put in around Siem Reap just last xmas and I'd like to go and have our photos taken next to the signs and pumps. Looking forward to that too, just not sure when that'll be.

We might be able to meet in Cambodia then. Right now it looks like I gonna be back to Holland for an extended period (minimum a year I would say).

Den Haag, now I loved that place. I used to visit my Sister who lived there in the early 80's. I remember "The Free Record Shop". All you could hear at that time was tracks from "Big Country's" - "The Crossing". I bought it there and it reminds me of the Leiffel Bar, which has now gone, every time I play it.

I'll let you know when we're planning a Cambodia visit then, Dirk. Even in Bangkok, we enjoy having visitors from the outside world :-)

Dweeb, looks like there are a few "The Free Record Shop" in Amsterdam, so I might just end up in one of them.
