Hardest To Locate Remix Service Issue/Volume (Holy Grail)

Post by cuppy1991 on Wed 13 May 2015 - 15:59

Was just wondering what's everybody's holy grail or hardest to find issue/volume of a remix service?

I always thought it was X-Mix Dance Series Issue 9 but just wondered everybody's thoughts.

Thanks Dodd

Hi Kerry, got your pm, great to hear things are getting a little better for you.

About this ......searched a number of times myself for this, just about impossible to get, by far one of the rarest issues, only a few test pressings exist. Most people think that the Earth Wind & Fire Medley was the reason for it not getting past the test pressing stage, but I've also read somewhere that it could have also been because of the Grace Jones mix, that was {supposedly/ maybe} done by Bradley D. Hinkle before he went off to Ultimix.

If it was because of Earth Wind & Fire ??? I wonder why they let DMC have all the songs for a medley in 1983 on Tape 7, two years earlier.

Would love to hear this issue to see what that Grace Jones mix sounds like and see if it is anything like the Ultimix version.

Here is some information about "Series 4 Issue 12".
The man who sent me this, saying it's "NO official" album.
He calls it a "bootleg".

This are the tracks into the "EWF" Medley of Series 4 Issue 12.

1. Earth, Wind & Fire 'Wanna Be With You'
2. Earth, Wind & Fire 'Fantasy'
3. Earth, Wind & Fire 'Sing A Song'
4. Earth, Wind & Fire 'Boogie Wonderland'
5. Earth, Wind & Fire 'Shining Star'
6. Earth, Wind & Fire 'September'
7. Earth, Wind & Fire 'Serpentine Fire'
8. Earth, Wind & Fire 'Let's Groove'
9. Earth, Wind & Fire 'Magnetic'

Grace Jones, "Slave to the rhythm".
Is the same as  the "Hot Blooded Mix".

Angie St. Philips "Light up my heart".
Is the "Dub" Version, from the album "Light up my heart [Remix] 12'' Vinyl.

The man will upload it to me.
But there is one problem.
The "EWF medley was corrupt, not 9 minutes but 2 minutes.
And full of interruptions.
He have the album only without the "EWF medley".
Tell me if you want it.

I hate to be a stick in the mud, and without listening to them I don't think that any of this is from that test pressing.

While I'm glad people are looking and trying to locate this, the only way I would believe that this was from hot tracks would have all the songs complete.

The Grace Jones song would really be hard to confirm as a Hot-Tracks mix. There are several different official versions of the Hot Blooded Mix, all with duration's close to the one on this test pressing. It's not surprising that the song is the 'Hot Blooded Mix" because it came out just before this issue from Hot-Tracks, but I really doubt they would copy the song exactly without doing a little something to make it different and a Hot-Tracks version itself.

The EW & F medley would also hard to confirm with so much of it missing. I was hoping that hunch might pan out about this medley (IT DID NOT) The hunch was that there would be a chance that this mix might appear on an issue of MIXX-IT. Cameron Paul was a remixer at Hot-Tracks when this issue was created, he was also in charge of the label at the same time taking over for Steve Algozino just months before in September.

When Cameron Paul left Hot-Tracks he took some of his mixes to his new label. A prime example is the Prince Medley. I was hoping that ::maybe:: if he was the one who made it there might be a close copy of it on a Mixx-It issue. No luck of anything to compare. The only thing that was close was part of Mixx-It  - Old School Mix 7, but the duration's are way off.

Hi Gregg.
Do you believe it's a real album, and no bootleg, are you sure of that??.
It's very strange that the man this says.[he have a very large collection of "Hot Tracks].
I'ts also strange that the cover is writing with a pencil !!!!.
What is the truth, i don't no.
But i like the discussion.

But again, my english is not good enough for this kind of long discussions.

Re: Hardest To Locate Remix Service Issue/Volume (Holy Grail)

Post by Spin A 12 Inch on Sun 14 Jun 2015 - 18:44

Hi Appie this  record was not a bootleg, it was "a test pressing" so it really does exist as a record that hot tracks made, but they never released it in its original form. This record is not the only Hot-Tracks Test Pressing that is out there, there are lots of other ones too (I think Kerry even has one from when he first joined hot tracks). however this is the only one that they did not release and make lots of copies of to send out to subscribers.

No one really knows why they did not press copies of it. It is suspected that either Earth Wind & Fire objected to the Medley or Grace Jones objected to the remix of Slave To The Rhythm.

Some of the songs on (4-12)  can be found on (5-1) that came out the next month. No one even knows how many of the test pressing exist. I know there is one in Germany and another one in California and maybe one in Canada. Amazingly only a few years ago this sold for just a few dollars.  Considering how rare this one is the person who bought it got it for a bargain at $31.12 because a lot of people would like to have this one.

No one even knows who the remix / medley credits belong to. Because it was a test pressing it only has basic handwritten information on it.

lol!  No matter what language barriers there might be out there I don't mind talking about this one, because I would love to hear it, and you guys from Europe should go over to this guys house in Germany and have him make copies for us.
He has it link  Arrow [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I wonder if even Select Mix has the original tapes from this, I wonder where they could be when Select Mix took over Hot-Tracks.

No it's NOT FAKE..

There are 2 Releases of Issue 009

X-Mix Issue Nine ‎(2x12", Comp, Promo) X-Mix XM-09     US 1993
X-Mix Issue Nine ‎(CD, Comp, Promo)     X-Mix XM-09-2  US 1994

But CD was released one year later, and did not contain same material.

For Sure the Vinyl is also very interesting.
